Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered dozens of emails from owners and potential customers covering a wide range of questions about the Voyage-Air Guitar so we've decided to bring it to the world in a Q & A format. We will continue to update this page as we get more feedback and commonly asked questions.

Acoustic Questions

Question: I love my guitar, could you please tell me what type of strings you use at the factory (brand and gauge).

Answer: All Voyage-Air acoustic guitars are equipped with D'Addario Phosphor-Bronze "Light" gauge strings (12s). Depending on your playing style, you can go lighter (Custom Light, 11s, or Extra Light, 10s) or up to Medium gauge strings (13s).

Reply: Thanks for the info about the strings, I like the way the guitar sounds and plays so much that I only want to replace the strings with the same ones it came with. I play bluegrass music and I went to a local jam recently (Phoenix, AZ) and one of the other guitar players had one of your guitars, I played it and decided to order one. I am an airline pilot for a “Major Airline” and I have been looking for a travel guitar that was easy to take along on trips. Your guitar fits in all the overhead bins I tried and it will even fit under the seats on certain airplanes.

Thanks for the fine product

Question: I plan to put in an undersaddle pickup such as the Fishman Presys+, or Matrix.  Is there anything special about the saddle that would affect or prevent such an installation, other than it needs to fit snugly enough to not fall out when the strings are slack?

Answer: As an undersaddle piezo pickup – this is not such a good idea with a Voyage-Air Guitar.  Why? Undersaddle piezo pickups are held under tension beneath the saddle.  Every time you fold the guitar, this presses and releases tension on the piezo element.  If you do that often enough, you're asking for trouble. Better is an internal pickup, inside the guitar, affixed under the bridge plate, like the K&K pickups, or a LR Baggs I-Beam. Both of these sound GREAT in our guitars and cost less than $150.  For the guitars that our Company demonstrates at trade shows, we install the K&K pickups.

Carrying Cases

Question: I have the VER-1. How do the backpack straps work? I can't figure out how to zip the back up with the straps out. Can you help?

Answer:  See this video for a visual "How To"
Here's what you do: Unzip the back cover, all the way around, so the backpack straps are completely exposed. Next, roll up the back cover (like rolling up a sleeping bag).  Roll it IN, towards the inside of the case.  Note that once it's a nice tight roll, the color of the fabric changes. Zip each side up about 3-inches to secure the roll in place.  The roll now becomes a 'pad' for your lower back when you wear it like a backpack!  (That's the reason for the different colored fabric reinforcement in that area.)

General Questions

Question: Where are the guitars manufactured? How long have you been in business? I am seriously considering ordering one. I need a travel guitar. I travel extensively on business and need to play. Thank you.

Answer: Our guitars are manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility, using the finest CNC machines, best hand work, and it is located in China.  All of our final set up and Quality Control is performed at special test stations at our expanded warehouse/distribution facility in Modesto, California.  We are very picky about the quality of our products. At Voyage-Air, we're all guitar players and enthusiasts, and we're dedicated to making the highest quality, yet most affordable guitars on the market. From the thousands of units we have shipped, customer satisfaction is over 99%.  Few companies can boast that.  As a relatively new company, our reputation means everything. We have many customers in your position: they need a great sounding, easy to play guitar to take on the road.

Question: I would like to play a VAOM-06 but there isn’t a dealer near me. Pardon me but I am a bit concerned about buying online sight unseen or played.

Answer: Voyage-Air Guitar has never had a customer say: "This guitar just sounds and plays bad: I want my money back."  Not a one.  That's a pretty incredible record.  Frankly, we think you'll be amazed by the sound and feel of your new VAOM-06.  And with the Solid Sitka Spruce top, it will sound better and better as you play it (the sound will "open up").

Question: My wife bought me a Voyage-Air thru Musicians’ Friend-it did not come with ANY information ("case candy") on the proper way to fold the guitar, how to care for the strings etc-Musicians Friend say that no info was given to them with the product, so I must contact you--should there be info and if so can you send it to me?

Answer: For anyone who didn’t receive information with his or her Voyage-Air Guitar can find useful information on our web site Owner's Manual. The manual has a video on opening and folding your guitar as well as other topics of what you are looking for.
